Tim McManus, Director of Business Development
PDA Stage

What is your favorite viral video?
That is a really tough question….. someone sent me this link the other day, and I think its really fantastic. There are some classics on this list but I like “PowerThirst (#31) quite a bit. http://youshouldhaveseenthis.com/

What first drew you to a career in video?
I produced and directed a documentary film called Finding Pura Vida (will have played for the second consecutive year at the Charleston International Film Festival by the time of the lunch) to tell the story of the Pura Vida No Pro surf clinic designed to introduce at orphaned children from San Jose Costa Rica to the sport of surfing. Held once a year on the beaches of Costa Rica, this clinic brings together travelling surfers with the local community to produce a one day surf clinic/beach day for the kids from the city. I had been volunteering my services as the media director and felt a documentary short would be a great way for people to find out about our cause. www.puravidanopro.com

It was my first film but I was able to secure funding from Quiksilver and Nalgene. The folks at PDA saw the film at the CIFF and that began the conversations about me taking over business development for the PDA Video department.

What is one of your favorite projects that you have been a part of?
The documentary we are producing for Charleston Fashion Week has been an exciting in that it allowed us to play with different cameras, editing techniques and interview styles.

Tell us something about you many people wouldn’t know?
I am the founder of the Macho Beach Noseriders Surf Club. This is an international club that started in Charleston. The goal is to establish members on beaches around the world creating an impressive network that allows us to travel with ease to great surfing locations.

Stay tuned — next up: Justin Nathanson
